The New Zealand Curriculum requires schools to be inclusive of all areas diversity, highlighting the need for ensure children genders feel physically and emotionally safe. Children develop concepts expectations gender norms at school which can influence self-esteem. Gender-inclusive classrooms are a safe environment explore express identities. One way that gender-inclusive achieved is through children’s literature, result in less bullying higher self-esteem gender-diverse children. research question this study is: what primary teachers’ understandings how literacy resources contribute classrooms? Semi-structured interviews were used gather qualitative data answer question. Data analysed thematic approach revealed professional development teachers Aotearoa confidently incorporate queer classroom.
